Dear Doctor Science, Did "Hooked on Phonics" work for you? -- Robert Chavez from Ann Arbor, MI It sure did. Where before I wrestled with the meanings of words and the complexities of sentence structure, now I spend all my spare time obsessing about murmur diphthongs, and resenting dangling participles. I don't know if that's progress, but it is change, and at my age any new scenery is welcome just for being new. I'm pleased to see that the Hooked on Phonics people have managed to peddle an addictive substance without running afoul of the law. Who would have thought a phoneme would be so hard to shake.
