I am not very familiar with the space orb, so please do elaborate. However, based on what I've seen so far, here are their limitations. Most controllers are 2D. Many of the ones that are "3D" do not work with a lot of games out there. The 3D ones typically are a 2D plus the ability to rotate left and right (i.e yaw). Rotation in the other two planes is nonexistent. Some very expensive (~$1000 or more) controllers meet the above limitations, but in addition to being too pricey, you use them by rotating a ball at your finger tips; the controls are over sensitive and static. What I want is something that gives me at least as much range of motion as an arcade joy stick. So does anyone know of anything like what I'm looking for? I don't think I'm being too demanding here. What am I missing and why has no one made it yet?

BTW, My thanks to Timbur and John F. for their tips.

What would be the difference between that and a Space Orb?
