Michelle, You don't know much about SUNW, Michelle. Just where do you get your information?? BTW: DELL is a screwdriver company. You can't compare their business model to SUNW. Don't even try, you'll make a fool of yourself cheers, cherylw

Michelle - i assume your referring to Sun's attempts to go live on packaged ERP - Oracle Manufacturing, I think. Well SGI went up about 3 years ago in a record time and it hasnt helped that company much. Apple had a failed SAP implementation about 3 years ago - perhaps it affected the company's ability to manufacture and forecast - a big problem during 94-97. What's Dell's status? I heard they were implementing SAP, stopped after the usual cost overruns and turned to Oracle. I'm not sure what the significance of being able to implement a packaged ERP solution quickly means. Perhaps their current systems are extrememly effective but they want to move for other reasons, Euro currency, Y2k, etc. Certainly during these 5 years Sun has been an extremely succesful company and are increasing order growth, profitability, shipments,etc. while moving price points down and becoming the #1 manufacturer of unix systems replacing HP, IBM, etc. As far as their financials go since 1982 Sun has only failed to make a profit in 1 quarter. If you listened to some of these ERP reps out there selling this stuff im sure they think they could have solved that problem as well!
