The online community is a broad spectrum of personalities and opinions. I accept that, and enjoy the variety. I have only twice thought that some folks on these boards were real dickheads. The first was when the whole Loral/China fiasco came to be the rally cry of every political nutcase. The second would be today.

Rajala,

OT - bananas

Re: foreign aid

I am sure there are better way to go about foreign aid that don't distort the market? How about openly proclaiming to the citizens of your country that their money is going to be used for foreign aid, taxing them directly and doing with the money what European "elite" thinks is the right thing.

Isn't it a little arbitrary to decide that if the consumers want to do the "right thing" they have to buy bananas? What if you want to do the right thing but you don't like bananas? What about a person who doesn't want to do the "right thing" but likes bananas?

How about opening the doors to imports from all impoverished countries, without preferences? It would do a lot more than foreign aid or "development aid".

Re: Korean and Iranian passenger plane.

This seems silly, but you are leaving out some important details (as usual)

Shooting down the Korean Airlines plane was deliberate action. The plane was identified, orders were given. It happened in middle of nowhere.

The Iranian plane was a human error. It happened in the middle of war zone. The plane was flying directly at the ship, and it was not identified as a civilian plane.

In short, Russians knew they were killing civilians. Americans did not. If they knew that the plane was civilian, the orders to shoot would not have been given.

Re: Having extremely limited exposure to foreign media you wouldn't know what I'm talking about.

What do you know about my exposure to foreign media?

Joe

> I said I have no clue.

Hmm, your are right. Not a clue. Not a semblence of a clue.
Not a shadow of a doubt of a clue. Not within ten-miles
of a clue.

Sad but true, you have no clue.

Regards.
