Tom -

I have seen stories of the kind you posted, and stories of the kind Murrey posted. This makes me think that at the very least, Iomega needs to do some more training in the customer service department.

Iomega will replace any drive which comes down with the COD syndrome even if that drive is no longer under warranty. As far as I am concerned, they are going beyond the call of duty when they do that, not sweeping the problem under the rug, as they have been accused of doing.

But when someone who doesn't know enough to press the issue calls up and is told that his drive is not under warranty so he's out of luck, that is not OK.

No matter how well any product is made, there will be some units which break. A good company responds correctly when that happens. From the mixed stories I have heard, Iomega does not always respond correctly.

It is important to realize that people who have had a negative experience are much more likely to talk about it than those who have had a good one.

For my part, I want to say that in three years of using Iomega products, I have had to deal with customer service twice, both times in connection with drives used by other people where I work. Both times I couldn't have been more pleased with the responsiveness and professionalism of the people at Iomega.

My own personal Iomega drives (two Zips and two Jaz drives in my home) have never had a problem.
