Thread,

Is there someone in the industry who can help Mark?

Mark,

I've never researched the EDA companies. I believe there are about 2 or 3 key players with CDN (Cadence) being the only name that I associate with this niche.

I wouldn't even know what questions to ask in order to properly assess the opportunity.

If no help comes on this thread, there are several industry insiders who post on the General Lithography thread who should be able to offer some useful insights.

Regards,
Ian.

Besides Cadence Design Systems which was already mentioned by Ian, two other potential merger partners would be Synopsis (SNPS) and Avant! (AVNT). All three of these companies are involved in various aspects of IC design and compete with each other to varying extents.

I do not know anything about their technology, although their low sales and large expenditures suggest that they do not have any unique technologies for solving design problems.
