re risk of deriviatives
Well maybe.
I think short term, such as buying calls or selling puts within a few week time frame is maybe risky. (Of course buying the stock is risky too, and risk with larger capital investment). However when you have fine companies...I am only thinking of options on Csco, Dell and maybe Rmbs as way to get in to Rambus' action...the risk is minimized especially if you have longer term options. LEAPS appear excellent to me for this reason.
I do recognize the volatility: if you saw some of my earlier posts, on my first venture into options I saw a 40% gain turn into a 9% gain in two days!!!!! Sometimes one cannot go for one's "target price". Now I may buy those same options back (as they were longer term) and make the double or triple I was looking for. But I did not wish to hold them into a break even or loss position.
