Report of facial recognition technology . . . In a report from Comdex, the AP yesterday reported that the most promising facial recognition technology, FaceIt by Visionics, was being phased out and that Visionics was "focussing on other technology. [Visionic staff] would not elaborate, but one rival said the product often would misread a face if a person, say, wore glasses one day but not the next." This is not entirely a reliable report, given that it was probably generated by staff in a Comdex booth. Further, the explanation was provided by a rival. However, if FaceIt is being phased out, that is significant for this competing biometric technology, and comforting to IDX.
