Hi Skeet, maybe the answer depends on what the secretary/assistant does with the computer. If it is simply a smart typewriter, imho nothing beats WP6.0 for dos. Nothing. Period. It's idiotproof, yet powerful, yet never, ever crashes. So, really a 386 is good enough for that.

But, if the computer has to run Windows programs, then all the bells and whistles sure make the job easier.
