Aloha, I talked to Creaf about THE PC.They are not making PCs these are boxes by other vendors packed with Creaf products being sold in Brazil and Asia ,its has been on the market for the past year.The information released about Creaf's PC by others have been Incorrect.

I am basically against the Creative PC for the US market.
However, it may do well in the Asian or perhaps even
the European market.

In the US, you just don't want to go against Dell and
Gateway. Dell sells $10 million dollars of product
every day just on the web. They've got the system down
to an art form. Gateway has the warm fuzzies for the
home PC crowd. Very tough sledding trying to displace
Gateway from the hearts and minds.

The idea that I would support is to sell a Creative
PC only on the web. Those who know enough to appreciate
the quality of Creative parts vs no-names are likely
to also be web savvy. You don't get stuck with a lot
of inventory sitting in the channel, you get build to
order customization, and you can automate the procedure
and save personnel costs (the usual web advantages).
They could outsource the PC assembly and just provide
their components to add to stock PC components. The
best way to use resellers like CDW would be to sell
on their web sites, but ship from the factory. CDW gets
a cut, but never has to handle the merchandise.

For the Asian market, I would hope that Creative's name
and also their popular software would drive a brand
recognition that would enable success. Web penetration
does not seem as strong in this market. Europe has a
reputation for paying up for quality, so it might fly
there as well.

Actually, I kind of like the PC idea. I think they can go at it slow and see how it goes. Don't see any reason why it would have to be any big up front costs. Who knows? Maybe they can give DELL a run for their money, at least in Asia. I believe CREAF now knows how to contain costs at least as well as DELL.

I like the idea better then going to DELL hat in hand and groveling for some low margin OEM contracts. DELL makes me sick. Just a cheap box maker with no real assets at all. Just their stinking name and an inflated share price.

Mike, Creative isn't going to make PCs. The idea is to demonstrate how all their products work seamlessly together. The PC will be made by partners (usually smaller PC companies) who need a strong & trusted brandname to get some respect. Creative would usually give them a discount for buying a bundle of product. Everybody's happy.
