I think this will become bearish to the stock. It could become "buy the rumor, sell the news". Amazon's timing is perfect - right on the tail end of their coordinated stock sell-off.

Notice that the announcement had none of the usual statements like "We expect to see huge growth in the future and appreciation in the stock price, so a split is necessary to make the stock more affordable for our investors." - or some such. Just some stuff about "we are the largest teeny on-line bookseller in the past 15 minutes".

Yes, a brief 3-4 day reprieve and another 10-30 points down. We could get another stock promoters' sucker rally leading up to the split. The split is timed to keep the stock momentum moving up, but it may be too late in the cycle for that.
