Paul RE: < HP design, NexGEN design - why is one "bad" and the other the holy grail?>

No design is "the holy grail", do you expect INTC to buy HP in the near future? Try to give me a couple of days notice. HP got the best out of Apollo(sp?), & had quick chips with an ok operating system while DEC had only the chips & SUNW had only a good OS. HP is a sinking ship(IMHO) in the CPU biz, & perhaps in the printer biz also.

Paul,

HP design, NexGEN design - why is one "bad" and the other the holy grail?

Because AMD bought Nexgen.. it's not that there is anything wrong with the design. If I were Intel though I would be very worried about HP telling them where to shove it in a couple of years and continue to develope the EPIC on their own.. The last thing Intel needs is competition from HP at this point.. Remember Intel used to get help from AMD and look where that got them...
