Great post Steve........especially in regards to product size and shipping. Being in the furniture bizz I am acutely aware of the draw backs in selling furniture over the net.I am new to cyber space and computers but have owned my own business for 23 years .I have spent the past 18 months making web sites and trying to get visitors. I have finally started to get some action and now its time to sell them something.I have sites that give away free graphics and other freebies. Just like in the real world......give it away and they will come. I have just put my store on line and have had only a few hundred visitors with no sales. I am trying to sell gifts and accessories with no luck. I guess its the wrong product or price. I will not give up but I am getting perplxed. I started out in the antique business and thing there is some possibility there but I am going to put my time into web sites ; for now. I would be very interested in your auction experience, good or bad. I think the best thing to sell is information,no inventory, shipping....just email your info.I have one site getting 800 to 1,000 unique hits and its time to offer them something............but what? Lets keep this thread going and listen to all ideas .....we will all learn something.

I'm not sure in general how retailers are going to do on the net since competition is so tough(In terms of price competition). It will probably make supermarkets slim profit margins(1-2%) look great in comparison.

I think developing ways to allow small business people to enter into Internet Commerce easily might be a avenue for which to setup a web site for. Anyone heard of or have any opinion of affiliate/associate /revenue sharing sites that give a cut of the profit/revenue to people that create mirror sites.

Nice Forum,

John
