Why couldn't he just put a bomb in Windows to disable it if the fee isn't paid?

That would be fairly invasive, don't you think? Remember the old Star Wars metaphorical analogical warfare front, and Bill's Death Star? It'd work fine for the bread-and-butter business PC world, more or less, with support staffs to handle this stuff and take the heat. I wouldn't call it consumer-friendly, though. Of course, I've always found it hard to fathom the consumer thing in the Windows context, given the integrity and uniformity experience and all that.

Seriously, in principle it seems reasonable and easy enough to do in an internet connected world. In practice, it's again sort of like the Win98 auto-update thing, where there's one question you have to ask yourself. Do you feel lucky? Ok, I have trouble being serious for more than a sentence at a time.

Cheers, Dan.
