GV, >> Intel has the Fab capacity that MSFT cannot duplicate<<
I think that Microsoft has a much much larger fab capacity than Intel. There's currently hundreds if not thousands of "fabs" in South East Asia pumping out countless Microsoft products. Of course, none of these are true Microsoft operations and they charge almost nothing for what they produce, but that's another story. These "fabs" still build mindshare for Microsoft. As does Microsoft's donations of software to American schools and libraries.

Someone said before that Mr. Gates really "has no social conscience when it comes to giving or more properly(not giving) even a small portion of his personal wealth. Further, a person of his stature should take the bull by the horns and set an example..."

What the hell does technology have to do with social conscience?!?
There's no connection from what I've seen over the last decade.

I think that Mr. Gates makes a tremendous contribution by allowing these mini fabs in SE Asia to flourish and distribute these otherwise unaffordable MSFT products. Microsoft makes very little today from these sales , but I would hope that down the road they could see actual revenue from "their" mini fabs in SE Asia.

OTOH, Intel must finance $$$ billion fabs before they even sell one microchip.
It sure helps to keep competitors from flocking onto their turf tho'.
