Ken, there has been so much obfuscation in this area, I wouldn't even hazard to guess publicly what is behind some marketecturist's thinking when they coin these terms. There are still some arguments waging re just what a Layer 3 switch really is. Perhaps there is a rational explanation that can be directly extracted from the words: chassis based and fixed configuration, but even when those rational possibilities prevail, they usually exist in the vacuum of esoteric context at first, and then become assimilated into the language later, as though they actually made sense. "VPN" is a favorite of mine that highlights this principle. I'll ask my NORTEL account folks what this means, and ask them to come back with an explanation. In the meantime, perhaps Denver or someone else would like to submit a candidate explanation to compare it with what my sales guys come back with later. It oughta be interesting to compare the different takes. Later, Frank
