The problem is the word "euthanasia", Ish. We have discussed this before. Here's a post from me on the subject:

In brief, today the word "euthanasia" is used (wrongly, in my opinion) to cover two distinct, and very different, things: 1) assisted suicide (suicide by request); 2) mercy killing (performed without a specific request on the part of the person being "put out of his misery").

Much of the debate about "euthanasia" these days stems from the ambiguity of the word itself. Opponents often insist that proponents of "assisted suicide" really advocate "mercy killing" (which opponents liken to abortion, because the "victim" does not have a choice).
