What you say here is very true and very life changing. I am sure you remember when the Lord taught them to pray. His words were(and are)

MAtt. 6:
5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

Can you see the eyebrows go up, and people looking at each other, and saying "Father?" They, as you said, were not that familiar with being that close to God. Another reason I am so glad to be an "adopted son" Rights as adopted son?? You bet: I can say that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe it, by the gift of the Holy Spirit.

1 Cor. 12:3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

Thanks Nancy

Nancy,

I enjoyed your post, most especially this part: "The flip side to this IMO is that we are to be like children to enter the kingdom of heaven. That is a day full of meditation on what God means for us to be like children. Is it to trust our father without fear? Or to run to Him when we get hurt? Can we sit in His lap and listen carefully to His wisdom (the Bible) in our troubles? What a gift Jesus has given us and IMO it is much more than eternal life it is a personal relationship with a warm loving father God."

I agree with what you said here, and it demonstrates to me that you have given much thought to some of the most important questions. I remember a song from when I was a child. It was called "This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine". To me, the light is the spirit. The 'shining' results form casting off sin and darkness through wisdom, shared unto us by God. To me, that little light is a piece of, and was given to me by God. We can either choose to let it burn low like a pilot light, or be honest with ourselves, and let it burn higher and higher until all that is not of God burns away. To me, the difference between saying he are filled with the Holy Spirit and it has burned away all that we were that was not him, and saying that we are like God is largely semantic. Unless...that process is not based in honesty and wisdom as you have suggested, but instead upon ego and self. Or if one forgets were the wisdom came from. As long as these two problems does not arise, I see very little difference between saying we are filled with the Holy Spirit, and we have become like God. In the way that I see it, it is not to seek to displace God, but to honor God by bringing ourselves as near to harmony with him as we can. If we all did this, regardless of whether we speak of it with my words or yours, what a joyous concert of spirits that would be. I agree we are to be like children and without fear. In order to become in harmony with God, we must all become dripping babes in a manger once again. It sure hasn't been easy for me, but finding the parts of me that would resist the joy of being a child is how I know what is not in harmony, and needs to be healed or simply burned away by a brighter light.

Peace,
Darrin

Hi Nancy,

Replying to you again after seeing a quote from David's post (David's capital letters removed).

"They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power(Holy Spirit) that could make them godly. You must stay away from people like that" (2 Tim 3:5 NLT)"

I know different people will interpret this differently, but most will likely come away with the impression that being filled with Holy Spirit makes one Godly. Godly to me makes one like God, or unto God. Apparently, Timothy believed as much.

I believe that God gave us the Holy Spirit (our little light), we've always had it, and it is Christ (however you may perceive him) that reminds us that we have it, and shows us how to make the flame burn bright. I see the Jesus of the Bible as a big brother, who has been there before, and is awakening me to all that I must do in order to follow, much as does Paul and Timothy.

It may be that the answers of whether the light was given us by God, and Christ (by an individual's interpretation, within or without) awakens us to it, or that we received it from Jesus upon accepting Him as those who see it this way interpret him, is all that stands between most on this board, Sam included. Whichever Christ one sees in the picture of his heart, I don't feel he would be pleased to see the house divided over him. Maybe we brothers and sisters on this board aren't really divided, but are merely letting the words that describe pictures get in the way. One thing I do know for sure, any vision of God would be pleased with Nancy.

Peace,
Darrin
