From CED - ADCT announced HFC-based IP telephony solution 11.16.98 Minneapolis—ADC Telecommunications Inc. announced the availability of an HFC-based IP telephony solution based on its Homeworx DualTech platform. The first product, available immediately, accomodates access and transport for both circuit-switched and IP telephony from the same platform. Second phase products, scheduled to ship in the second half of 1999, will deliver "lifeline" IP telephony, said ADC. ADC will give MSOs the option of powering an IP network locally (with batteries in subs' homes) or by the HFC network itself. ADC's solution will also offer CLASS (custom local area signaling service) features (such as call forwarding and call waiting) and a scaleable migration path from circuit-switched to IP.
