A: The transition the industry is going into right now is primarily to the .18 micron
device feature sizes. We need to ask, "do we need new fabs in order to migrate
to the new feature size?" Given the excess capacity and the fact that the
industry will not be using larger wafers, it does not appear that capital spending
on the equipment front will be nearly as feverish as it was during the mid 1990's
when fabs were being rolled out left and right. You will need certain tools to
migrate to the .18 feature size.>>
