<<The street factors seasonality...

It is true...But if you had read the message I responded to, he made a case that if Amazon did $350M this quarter they would do $1.4B for the 12 month period...which I tried to debunk....

I think you are correct about online retailing being the best season ever, but, compared to what? And what does that portend for next year? How do they sustain those multiples?

Mike

Increasing Losses

Rob, do you know why Amazon is experiencing larger losses even with growing sales. Normally, even in a start up, I expect to see losses to decrease with growing sales.

I suspect they claim they are building a brand and will turn the corner towards profitability soon. Analyst seem to predict they will begin to cut their losses by June of 2000. That is plenty of time for competition to set in.

What about Barnes and Noble's purchase of Ingram who is Amazon's primary distributor?

Personally, I found my Amazon experience a disappointment. The prices was just as high in a conventional book store, but I was unable to browse through the book in advance. Although I read their book reviews, the books turned out to be a big disappointment.
