i think this rally is much broader based with small and mid-cap participations. as these stocks were more beaten down than the large cap, it take them longer to achieve new highs. based on that reasoning, this integrity of this rally is probably stronger than the one in July that set the new Dow record.

That's my opinion.

Donald I agree with your outlook on the market. The 5,15,30,60 minute and daily stochastics are way overbought on the nasdaq, oex, dow. The MACD is also overbought on these indices while the MACD HISTOGRAM is not confirming the new highs in this upmove.Everyone is expecting a Santa Claus rally I think this year we will not get it.I know the market can stay overbought for extended amounts of time but I beleive this upmove will end early next week.

DS:
On a somewhat speculative note, I'd like to offer my opinion.
I think next year is VERY dangerous for the financial markets.
I believe the problems will start in Europe, with the switchover to the Euro.
As we move further into the year, more and more news will emerge on the subject of Y2K problems. I realize this is often relegated to the domain of alarmist paranoids. I am a realist.
It is well known that the problems will not be corrected in time.
The impact will be cumulative. It's a supply line/accounting problem.
I believe that many people who invest in stocks will lighten up during the year. Buying pressure will subside, selling will begin to have the upper hand.
It is my opinion that this bull run we're enjoying will be the last until the year two thousand. I am participating with extreme vigor, yet preparing to go increasingly short.
All this is just a theory, something I've been thinking about.
Regardless of whether I am right or wrong... I believe it is important to be vigilant next year.
Enjoy this party while it's in motion. I don't think it will last.

My $.02,
