Russian satellite launch delayed again
(Updates with new delay)

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., Nov 20 (Reuters) - The launch of a Russian television satellite on a U.S. Delta 2 rocket from Cape Canaveral was aborted on Friday due to a communications glitch, the Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA - news) said.

The countdown was halted when ground controllers reported they were unable to fix a communications problem with the U.S.-built, Russian-financed satellite before the mission's launch window closed at 7:04 p.m. EST (0004 GMT).

''That will effectively scrub the mission for this evening,'' mission commentator Greg High said. ''We no longer have any time left.''

The satellite's builder, Hughes Space and Communications, had struggled with the communications glitch between a ground station and the satellite atop the rocket throughout the countdown.

High said if the problem could be fixed the next launch opportunity would be on Saturday at 6:23 p.m. EST (2323 GMT).

It was the second night running the launch of the 12-story rocket was delayed. On Thursday, a steering problem with the rocket's main engine was to blame.

The Delta 2 rocket is carrying the Bonum-1 satellite for Bonum-1, a subsidiary of Media Most, a private Russian media group. The spacecraft, built by Hughes Space and Communications, will be capable of transmitting 50 channels of digital television to homes in western Russia.

It will be the first time a commercial Russian satellite has been built and launched by the American aerospace industry.
