Texas Instruments Inc. (TXN) 75 13/16 -1 5/16: ABN Amro analyst David Wu downgrades semiconductor and digital signal processing solutions supplier from "buy" to "hold" based on valuation..... Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) 85 15/16 -2 1/16: share of telecommunications equipment maker are trading lower today on rumors that company might pre-announce an earnings shortfall for the December period; while some Wall Street firms believe everything is fine with LU's fiscal Q1 performance, some suspect that LU could pre-announce a shortfall as early as this afternoon; investors should keep in mind that the quarter is back-end loaded and that LU can easily make-up any shortfall in the last two weeks of the period; nonetheless, concerns over earnings are putting pressure on the stock today; according to Zacks, LU is projected to earn $0.96 a share.....

RUMOURS: Not Again Uncomfortable!! Merrill Lynch's report on 11/20: Investment Highlights: · We continue to expect the December quarter to be backend loaded, which is consistent with the normal seasonal pattern. · Recent contract awards (specifically, wireless infrastructure contracts in Brazil) provide us additional confidence that the company is on track to deliver consensus earnings in the December quarter. · Contrary to current speculation, the company has informed us that it is not planning a conference call this afternoon to announce layoffs or any restructuring activities.
