Re: Nikon and rotating media (even more, a bit long here)

Allen, the comment by Nikon some months ago which I referred to got me to thinking, and I found the following on their website:

1. Actually, Nikon has now branched out into the consumer market with a line of "Coolpix" cameras from about $300 to $650. The most expensive actually seems to have pretty good specs.

2. Otherwise, the only digital camera shown on the website are the new E3 Professional Digital Cameras for $6900 - $8500 (E3s), which look like they're pretty much standard (for Nikon) SLR camera with all the bells and whistles and a CCD array instead of film. It is interesting (to me) to note, that, even though they will accept "CompactFlashâ„¢ memory cards (with a PC Card adapter), these are not recommended or supported by Nikon" and they only recommend and support the "Nikon EC-15 high speed Flash ATA Type I card."

3. There is NO MENTION one way or the other of "rotating media," and specifically no mention of Iomega's products, either positively or negatively for either the consumer or professional camera lines. Of course, there is no Clik! available for the camera, so there's no reason to mention it. I interpret this lack of guidance, as opposed to the earlier "No rotating media" to be a significant loosening of Nikon's position on the matter. Of course there are some (is one) who will disagree vehemently with me, but I know I'm right, and that's that.
