from Fibrehound on Yahoo: I spent some time asking qlgc and ancr about each other. Ancor was very impressed with qlgc and emulex as well. Also qlgc had two of ANCR's switches sitting on their display table. There were no other switches from other vendors on there table. I asked about this and qlgc told me it was to show interopability with them. The main display in the Fibre channel room was being run by a Gadzook switch, but all the other vendors had their switch stacked up on top of Gadzooks so as not to show favorites. IBM had only Brocade and Ancor's switch displayed. An interesting point made to me was that Brocade just changed the back plate of their 16 port SW and covered up 8 of the ports. The SW is the same dimensions as the 16 port SW. Ancor Rep's felt this was significant because their redesign produced a lighter, thinner SW. Thus OEMS save critical space when stacking the SW's and other components. Several of different colored Ancor SW's were displayed. The SW's will be painted in the OEM's choice of color. The older SW was an ugly yellow green. Their new SW is Viking Purple. Evidently Adaptec has failed miserably in their attempt to produce a functional Fibre channel product. Fibrehound
