Yes, you have it excatly. The price movement at the end of the day are irrelevant.. It's teh volume which is the leading indicator for how coms does at the next open. When there more volume at close than average for the day it usually indicates a small gap up in the next AM. The size of the difference shows the size of the gap. Volume completely disappearing means a gap down, and again the difference determines teh size of the gap.
