slowing economy, lower overseas sales, lower earnings, guess what that brings? A very nasty correction as the market factors in the new fundamentals. Right now it is living a pipe dream, skyrocketing on the back of thin air. One can argue that 401k money is still pouring in, but as the carry trade reverses directions(many Japanese firms , it seems, are underweight in Euro-denominated assets), Expect HEdge fund liquidation of leveraged long positions in US equities and bonds to exacerbate the decline. And it is quite obvious who controls more money-Offshore investors or American retirees.

One can also argue that the fed will avoid panic/credit crunch simply by flooding the banking system with easy money, but isnt that positive for gold as well?
