paul -
I guess you know nothing about the NT64 development, which is parallel and independent of the 32-bit NT5 work and is a much smaller code base. Also when such a product might be released.

I guess you also missed the announcements in September about the technology partnership between MSFT and CPQ which transferred key technology and people from Tandem and DEC to MSFT to accelerate the high availability offerings. Maybe you think those guys don't know anything about reliable OS design either?

Perhaps some of the MSFT insiders who used to frequent this thread can give you a little more information but keep in mind that both Tandem NSK and VMS routinely achieve 99.99 reliability and support rolling upgrades of every system component - you can completely replace every hardware and software component without taking the system down. In the case of a Tandem system, you can do it without even affecting the guaranteed service level. Some Tandem systems achieve 99.9999 availability.

You keep thinking about your desktop OS, and keep assuming that MSFT is full of incompetents. But the one thing MSFT has always been able to do is abandon their pride if there is a better solution to be bought, and they have the resources to buy the best. Why do you think they wouldn't do that to solve their enterprise OS issues?
