Scumbria - You must be out of your mind, comparing AMD's technical talent to Compaq's. Tandem Labs, the SRC in palo alto, as well as a host of other research labs around the country - how do you think CPQ spends the more than $2B that they invest in R&D each year? CPQ's R&D total is greater than AMD's gross revenue. CPQ already had a pretty good Silicon staff before they bought Tandem. Now they also have the DEC teams. CPQ probably has more and higher quality technical talent than AMD in every area of AMD's business except maybe the Fab - and given AMD's track record there, I'm not sure CPQ couldn't pull some folks out of the kitchen staff and beat AMD on that one too. Maybe you'll suggest next that McDonald's has more PHd's than CPQ.
