Sanjay - Technical question:

I assume when you say they changed the modulation scheme that they went from QPSK to some higher PSK. But, in order to get a higher data rate per bandwidth they need to couple that with a higher SNR, and of course in a CDMA system the noise floor for one receiver is the signals for the others. I.e. a no win situation. So obviously there is something else at play here? What is it? New block codes that allow better use to be made of the known channel characteristics and hence result in ridiculously low BER which was traded for a lower needed SNR, which in turn was traded for a higher PSK and higher ultimate data rate? Synchronization of the codes or packets being rx'd at the basestation (kind of unlikely, but...)?
