But the customers both companies ultimately want are on Lucent's Rolodex.

Good article and explains why the acquisition targets will be bought for technology more than their customers. Lucent is British royalty at the turn of the century. Ascend, COMS, and Newbridge are the gutsy Americans with their industrial know-how. One has the calling card, the others know what to do with it.

Cheers!

Pat

I'm believing that any one of the top picks in this sector is a good one, for some of the reasons given. This sector will be the leader over the next year as the telcos go to data networks. CSCO leads. LU will do so with acquisitions. The smaller players like xyln and nn will do quite nicely. I don't see any real risk here.

One should just own both CSCO and LU. I'm sure both will provide many years of price appreciation. Buy em and watch and enjoy.
