I remember once reading someone's theory of revolutionary change. There were stages to this effect.

1. Idea rejected as minor
2. Idea gains acceptance
3. Idea recognized as world changing for the few that adapt it.
4. Everyone capitulates.
5. Everyone claims the idea as their own and it is thought of as trivial.

If the world changes to ebusiness, do we really believe there will one player in the world of books or in the world of internet auctions like amzn and ebay? Internet business will be forgotten as the definer of business, but instead a tool which all businesses use. Like thinking of a company as a computer-using business. Today, almost all businesses use computers. Barriers to entry are less in ebusiness than in traditional commerce, not more. Ask Woolworth how their position in retailing did when Kmart came along and then in turn, Walmart. If the world continues in this direction, there will be hundreds of competitors, and it will be the fittest that survive, not the first.
