I suffer from terminal nosiness and have wondered ever since what his defense was. Is that a law about driving down the shoulder of the road? or does there have to be a sign? i tried to think of some mitigating circumstances he could present...wife in labor? bleeding child? But surely then the cop would have helped him out. Although it WAS the same nasty cop who gave CW his speeding ticket and accused him of stealing his own car and then frisked him up against the car. Speaking of which--the other day CW came in all puffed up. He said, "Ive had it with these police. They're harassing us teens and I've had all I'm going to take." I just looked at him, because he needs no encouragement when his sense of fair play has been violated; he will have his say. "I was cutting through the parking lot and the same cop with the moustache stops me and says,'Let me see your license and registration.' and I said, 'What'd I do, Officer? I was only going 10 mph.' And he says, 'Well, a lot of people speed through here and we're trying to cut down on the traffic. Do you have a reason to go through here?' And I said, 'Yes, I do. I just went to the bank here.' And he said, 'Can you PROVE it?' and I said, 'As a matter of fact I can' and I handed him the deposit slip. And he looked at it and I said,'You know, I'm getting pretty tired of this constant harassment. You've stopped me several times with no reason and humiliated me with searches and accusations and the next time this happens, I'm getting a lawyer.' " I was enthralled; I never would have done this. I still wouldn't-I cry if a policeman stops me. "What did he do?" "He handed me back the deposit slip and said, 'Thank you for stopping, Mr. Westbrook." And that was it. I guess he knew I had a case." "mmmmm" I said. Probably he had to get out of there before he wet his pants laughing.
