What was your reason for initiating your small position in May?

My opinion on this company's future is that it is uncertain but has great potential.

This company sold one of its' only profitable divisions this year. I think they did this because they realized that the potential earnings of becoming the new standard in the removable disk storage market was worth the risk. They manufacture the "Superdisk" which is similiar to Iomega's Zip disk. I think that it is prudent to have positions in both company's stock because even though Iomega has a substantial lead in market penetration and name recognition, Imation has ties to significant cash, manufacturing, and human resources as they are a spin-off of 3M company. For more info go to the Iomega thread as it has a significant following of investors both pro and con.

Anybody out there still with IMN? I'm debating whether or not to jettison it for taxes in 1998. I cant seem to get a sensible story on where they want to focus in 1999. Help is appreciated!
