Donald, the summation index is a longer term view of the McOscillator. The summation stalling here is an indication of the Oscillator hovering around the zero area and going into negative. We would have to continue into negative area for the summation to turn down. This is inconsistent with the OEX, DOW and SPX going to new highs on Friday and the RUT turning up. The McOscillator spent an extended (average to above average) number of days on the downside from the +200 topping area. Oscillators jobs are to oscillate, and I believe the evidence supports that we have oscillated to a bottom and now will oscillate back to another top. We had a chance to continue into negative territory after the indecision pattern in breadth however, I believe that the extended number of down days was enough to work off the overbought condition. Interestingly during this correction the NYA found support on the August tops. I don't see anything in the way from making new highs over the next week and we may even have a burst of buying power that will thrust us across the old highs, which will then get us into overbought territory again and bring the VIX into correction territory. From the looks of things, this rally wants to impale every bear and I think if we go to new highs and retest the neckline we are going to have one tremendous rally bringing historic bullish sentiment numbers and historic low bearish sentiment numbers. but what do I know.
