Hutch -- some interesting thoughts in the article. Don't fret, I read it and agree in part. Not every interpretation is self-evident when reading something of that nature. As is the case with your assessment - "A total unification of the whole will be the norm."

Political union is a huge step beyond monetary union, and it will be years before monetary union is tacitly declared success or otherwise.

Most on point and interesting is that some nations are or border on default (so there's a fine*). What's disturbing is that Europeans are expected to become transient labor, being uprooted to chase probably low-wage jobs pursuant to the corporate agenda. Investors appear to have increasing influence, more than any nation or central bank. A complex issue to be sure.
