This well done piece on the troubles with the civil space program in Russia serves to underscore a point I have been making about the importance of commercial programs. They desperately need cash infusions from G, ILS (Proton), and other programs in order to revive the entire sector. They know if they screw up G the repercussions could be severe. That's one reason I'm still in shock about the Zenit failure. I'd expect them to approach the remaining launches with great focus. That's not to say this isn't risky, launching always is. The point is that these people are good at what they do and there's a lot on the line. Everything should be fine.
