I2O architecture finds it slow going in the OEM world
eetimes.com

"We've been shipping I/O processors for about a year, but this quarter is when we'll see a real ramp-up," said Mike McGowan, product marketing manager for I/O processors at Intel's Connected PC Division (Chandler, Ariz.). "We're going from fairly low volumes to significant volumes."

"Back in February a handful of companies came together to tune their operating systems and drivers to address the performance issues. Although Rex would not name all the participants or detail how bad latencies were in early tests, he said the group was able to demonstrate "significant improvements" including an I2O system operating within 2 percent of the performance characteristics of similar hardware using monolithic drivers. One result of that work was a highly tuned "build six" version of the Wind River operating environment for I2O"
