CobaltB, it really doesn't sound too bad.
I knew few people that dedicated their entire
childhood to math and it did have very adverse
effect on their social life as adults. One kid
got a Phd. in math by the time he was 18. Two
years later he was a reborn jewish hasidic.
Another kid was about to finish his math major
at 13. He was a very good friend of mine and
I still like him a lot but he had many failures
as an adult.
So the bottom line is that kids should be allowed
to be kids.
Actually, competitive swimming was just another
addiction but I "retired" by the time I was 14
years old.
