<<<< To my mind there are 5 to 7 super stocks that have what I like to call Vehicles in their fields. They are in order 1. DELL 2. AOL 3. MSFT 4. LU 5. INTC 6. WAL and 7. HD. Investment in these Vehicles will make you all the money you need but by you investing in them
solely, they will NOT make the BROKER or HOUSE all the money they need. >>
Excellent post Voltaire, very well put. I count mostly on one of those stocks and dabble in some others to keep life interesting and perhaps learn a bit.
(Could you put a little Gateway in there for Drew)??
May the Bear of discontent never dig a burrow under your porch

Voltaire -
A great post, I have tucked it away for future reference. I also like AOL although am not currently holding it. I am pretty much fully invested at the moment - unloaded 1/2 my SAP in mid-october and bought SCI - already a double. Thanks to a friendly tip from another poster on this thread, I unloaded the other half of SAP and bought into PSQL earlier this month, already up about 20% on that one. I'm not really holding anything I don't like, so I'll probably just ease into AOL over the next few months as odds and ends turn up for me financially.

I thought your statement about your investing philosophy was clear and remarkably straightforward, and my own experience bears out the merit of your arguments, although I could not have stated it as nicely. The mainstays of my portfolio are stocks I have held for many years (including 4 of your 7), and I have been 'bored' by a return of better than 100% overall annually for at least the last three years. Nothing fancy in my technique - just buy and hold, and don't play with more than 20% of my holdings. I only shift the 'keepers' very slowly, maybe an adjustment every 6 months, and that only a portion of any holding.

But why wouldn't someone somewhere do that for small investors - there must be lots of folks who would love to do better than the mutual funds? Surely there's an opportunity there.

AOL has a head start on the Highway To Gold, the Internet. AOL is the stock that will trade the next year or so like Dell has for the past three

I totally agree with your view AOL and Dell.

Dell is my core holding with high expectation for the future as do most here.

OFF TOPIC

What is your view of the effect on AOL with the upcoming widespread use of xDSL & cable modems? Do you view this as a threat to Isp's?
Additionally I have a very bullish view of Mspg. Bought my first shares at 2.910 (split adjusted). It's a well managed company growing profits. They obviously have much more room to grow than Aol. There valuations are much more attractive as well.

I am not trying to sell you or anyone else on Mspg. Just respect you opinion.

Best regards

3d

Voltaire, QT, arthur, Chuzz, et al (not intentionally leaving anyone else out):
Let me add my belated thanks for your insightful posts. Voltaire, curious why CSCO is not on your list, while LU is.
QT, on second thought, who needs a new thread when we've got this one to enlighten us? Things move so fast here I can't keep up.
Best regards to all,
#B~}>
