Joan, I always liked Maureen Dowd as a reporter, though as a columnist she's a little heavy handed. I started out sarcastic in these forums, but was immediately informed by the dreaded K that letting both sides have it was not conducive to "substantive debate", along with the requisite Nazi reference traditionally signaling the end of debate in network circles. A few hours later, I was already a "partisan hater", told to "get on with your hateful life". That wasn't "direct name calling", though, whatever direct name calling might be.

So, the non-partisan, objective moralists can continue to believe that if they can just take Clinton down, the West will be temporarily safe from decline, at least until the real life equivalent of Orwell's Junior Anti-sex League takes hold, with the right kind of political assistance of course. Maybe it is all really funny, but the black humor I prefer doesn't come out unless you look at both sides.

Cheers, Dan
