what can be the likely closing price of AMZN if no 3-1 split was announced? Is the split made a a particular stock more valuable? The action on Friday was pure hype. In fact, having more shares of AMZN will drive the price down faster as two times more shares will now be available for shorting. The issue before was that there were very few avalibale shares for shorting and thus shorters were stuck with their initial positions without being able to addon. The idea is to play tough if one wants to short this sucker. Also, one needs to have enough guts and reservior of $$. Remember when the real-estate was really hot here and the Japanese were paying anything for a spot in cities like NY and the big island. What happened a few yrs down the line, the real market savvy old time players came in and bought those back from the Japanese paying like 1/10 of their initial price. It is similar situation here, the price of these Internet stocks going skyhigh, Japanese companies putting money in Yahoo and seems like it's going to go up to Mars.
