James .. To disable the proxy server: Click the Windows "Start" icon, then Settings, Control Panel, Internet, Connections and then LAN Settings. Then make sure that every box on that screen is unchecked, then click "OK". What I was told by @Home is that financial sites will bog down if you access them through the proxy server, and I guess SI is considered a financial site. When I disconnected, page loads went from about 45 seconds to a minute down to 1-2 seconds - I almost cried! The proxy server will speed up access to @Home's proprietary sites or other sites with which they have a formal relationship. But the difference in access might be a second or 2 without the proxy server, so it's not a big deal.
