The Vancouver Sun reports in its Friday edition that British Columbia
Technology Minister Andrew Petter says he is optimistic that the National
Research Council will establish a national research centre for fuel cell
technology in B.C. Reporter William Boei says that an industry-government
working group from B.C. was in Ottawa on Tuesday and Wednesday, lobbying
federal Industry Minister John Manley, Finance Minister Paul Martin and the
NRC to put the facility in B.C. Mr. Petter says the combination of a
national research centre with Burnaby-based Ballard Power Systems, one of
the world's leading fuel cell companies, will build B.C. into the world
centre of fuel cell technology. The hope is that the province will attract
fuel cell research companies, designers, marketers and suppliers, creating
a cluster of economic activity focused on fuel cells. That would boost the
province's ambition of building a significant high-tech industry.
