Charts show overbought across the board. The Mall, Amazon, CDNow business models are now pretty well documented and take very little time to duplicate. Expect a flood of entries into the market shortly. Many big name retailers will announce entries into the e-commerce market as a result of this years predicted online Christmas shopping successes. JC Penny, Sears, Walmart, Kmart, Saks et al... all coming on-line. Several big national brands will announce within weeks. Expect the large stodgy brokers like Merrill and Prudential to begin offering discounted trading online in the near future. During this quarter the e-commerce Internet stocks will loose their sparkle. Most savvy investors will realize this very quickly. Commerce is simply commerce. A shingle in cyber space has a very low barrier to entry. The current 'Name Brands' will quickly and easily compete in this world... plus they handle their own financing/credit accounts, perform their own fulfillment, own the stock they sell. More margin provides much more latitude on pricing. The Amazons and Yahoos have paved the way. They've legitimized a new method of shopping for and acquiring goods. They've made John Q. Public comfortable ordering online. However, they've awakened the sleeping giants. Next year we'll look back at this Internet e-commerce mania and wonder what the world was thinking about.
