MSFT, IBM and INTC (not AOL) hold patents an own a significant amount of intellectual property.

Amazon and Yahoo own very little intellectual propert, and their business model is very easily duplicated. I think that the focus on "Internet retailing" will dissipate next year. All major retailers will be online. All will offer the same services.

A retailer, will be a retailer, or better yet.. acting like a low priced wholesaler. Disintermediation.

No one thinks of Barnes and Noble as an internet company, yet they have quite a spiffy website. JC Penny, Sears, Saks have their catalogs online. Very shortly, Amazon will be viewed as yet another retailer, and will be valued as such.
