<..monitoring all of these packets..> Don't confuse what you are now getting into, charge-back and billing issues, with what you first got into--metrics-- and how VOIP datagrams can be differentiated and tracked from the others. An entirely different discussion. VOIP datagrams in the aggregate are just as easily disinquished in backbone networks as are ftp, http, telnet and all the rest, and monitored as such. That was your word--"monitored" If you believe Cisco's John Chambers, "voice will be free", so who cares whether Joe Voip called his mother, or not, and how many minutes the discussion lasted.
