11-23-98 Samsung's New CD-ROM Plnt in Indonesia

Samsung Electronics will set up a CD-ROM plant at its home electronics complex in
Indonesia, the company said yesterday.

The new plant is designed to catch up with such Korean and Japanese rivals as LG
Electronics, Toshiba and Matsushita on production capacity.

Samsung has a CD-ROM production line in its Suwon complex, south of Seoul, which has an
annual production capacity of eight million CD-ROMs.

The new plant in Indonesia will boost Samsung's capacity to over 10 million CD-ROMs a
year.

The plant will focus on 32x CD-ROMs, while the Suwon plant will turn out higher-level, 40x
or faster, products. Construction of the new plant will start next month at the earliest, a
company official said.
