Skipper, you age quite pleasantly as the day passes by, becoming less stodgy, less stick-in-the-muddy, less hardnosed, less didactic (I knew there was something that made me fond of you - and it is not morning posts.)...

>>You are a scientist then. You have observed a lack of cognition in lemmings.<<

Rather than scientist, try lemmingist. They are shy in the cognition column, but excel in precognition - knowing that their species will vanish if they, themselves, do not volunteer for population control duty.

>>Here is my scientific observation: I know nothing of a lemming's cognition; I do observe an excess of coordination (excess being defined as detrimental to their lives).<<

You, then, are the scientist! And you speak of social coordination, I assume. They have too much. They conform, cooperate too much - do things over-communally. You are saying, as a scientist, that the lemmings' genealogical bias towards communistic behavior is life threatening.

Will you please clarify? Are you saying "Better Dead Than Red," or that they value their posterity over their posteriors?

>>Do you consider yourself a humanist, and Rand not? Perhaps you just have a different definition of humanist.<<

As I have said, a lemmingist. Is there compatibility between lemmingism and humanism? (A tough one to deal with!)

Rand, I thought you knew, is a meist (two syllables). And, I'll show you mine, if you'll show me yours - source of definitions, that is.

I believe much has been resolved by this exchange of ours. If only other Feelings colloquies could be so efficient!

And, as Ayn would say, the only way to do it is by getting a hold of your own. (Could this be another, lemming-related, form of population control?)

(Or is it control of the population?)

ps: On rereading this post, once it has been committed to the thread, I feel certain I will rush myself off of some Scandinavian scarp. Oi!
